How To Find The Best Eyebrow Shape For Your Face (And Perfect It!)

Over the years we’ve seen a variety of eyebrow trends come and go with a massive back and forth between opting for a more minimal, arched or curved look like the trends of the 50’s, 70’s, and 90’s or opting for the more natural and grown-out looks of the 60’s, 80’s, and present day. While these trends can be tempting (some of us are still paying for the crimes committed with tweezers in the 90’s and early 2000’s), how can you know that a brow is really going to work for your face and be the most flattering shape possible? As we love to talk about the power of a brow for framing your features, we’ve decided to put together a guide for how to figure out your best brows ever based on your face shape! And, with the use of our Brow Perfector, you can shape your brows to perfection in a way that is far more follicle friendly than other shaping methods, so no more concerns about doing permanent damage!

The Anatomy Of A Brow

To understand how to shape effectively, you need to know which parts of the brow you’re addressing. The brow starts at the inner corner which is the part closest to the centre of your face, this then works up to the peak which is the highest part of the brow at the top of your arch. The arch refers to the curved (or less curved in some styles) lower line of the brow and the tail of the brow is the section which works from the peak and tapers down into the outer corner. Small adjustments to the proportions and shapes of these areas can entirely compliment the structure of your face and frame your features better- a little brow shaping really goes a long way!

The Anatomy Of A Brow

The 5 Different Brow Shapes

Flat Brows - A minimal arch height with little curvature and an almost straight taper from the inner corner through the tail with natural thickness throughout.

Flat Brows

Round Brows - A curved arch with a uniform thickness and a less defined peak, the brow tapers evenly from the inner corner through the tail.

Round Brows

Curved Brows - Also have a curved arch but with a more defined, high peak. Uniform to the point of the peak and then tapered through the tail to the outer corner.

Curved Brows

Angled Brows - A more triangular arch without the soft and regular curve, working up to the peak and then tapering more dramatically into the tail.

Angled Brows

Soft Angled Brows - Similar in shape to an angled brow but with a lower arch and a less angular peak.

Soft Angled Brows

Which Brow Shape Is Right For Your Face?

If you have a round face…
An angled brow is perfect for lifting the face and creating a slimmer appearance, adding much needed structure.

If you have a long or oval face…
A soft angled brow or a flat brow are perfect for breaking up the face and reducing the appearance of a higher forehead while creating a feminine appearance.

If you have a square face shape…
Curved or round brows are perfect as they create softness in the face with round brows being ideal for softening sharp features and curved brows being a great choice for if you don’t want too much softness.

If you have a heart shaped face…
A soft angled brow or a low curved brow are perfect for balancing a wider forehead and a pointed chin, especially when brows are left thicker.

If you have a diamond shaped face…
Round or curved brows are perfect for softening a diamond face structure with a natural and soft finish being flattering in the place of harsh definition.

How To Shape Your Brows

Now that you have a better idea of the shape which will be flattering to you, it’s time to start shaping. We recommend mapping your inner corner by placing a brow pencil or makeup brush at the side of your nose pointing straight up to meet your brow bone and then working from that same point of your nose straight over the eye diagonally to find your brow peak. You can then map the end of your tail by, from the same point of your nose, aligning your pencil with the outer corner of your eye to find a natural end point.

How To Shape Your Brows

Once you have established these points, simply recreate the shape you’ve chosen by using your Brow Perfector to remove hairs that do not fit within your desired shape. Remember- you want to remove as little hair as possible and it is recommended to remove hairs from below the brow rather than above where you can.

Thanks to its precise head and German stainless steel, the Brow Perfector precisely removes hair without irritation and, with the Spoolie end, you can brush the hairs upwards when working below the brow and downwards when working above to ensure that you always get a clean line. The 2-in-1 tool is all you need to achieve your ideal brow shapes in just minutes- so what’s stopping you!
